Happy New Year everyone

My New Year's resolution is to work seriously toward publication in 2010. I am enjoying writing and I want to do it well. I want the thrill of being published. I know I may never achieve this aim but I plan to do my best to make it happen.
My book with the ghost is flowing. His story will be told. The question is if anyone other than me will ever read it.
Hopefully somewhere out there is a publisher who is willing to give me the opportunity to see if readers like my stories.
I wish you all happiness and success in 2010.

A ghost

The holidays are over and I am writing again. The ghost in this book insisted I tell his story. So I am.
Of course I am only up to chapter one, but it seems to be flowing.
And maybe soon I will hear back about my other books. My aim is to graduate from aspiring author to published author. Maybe 2010 will be when it happens.

So when I changed the blog over I lost all my old posts

So here they are in reverse order

Holiday greetings
I am busy getting ready for the holidays just as you all are. I am still hoping to hear back about the two books I was asked to submit revisions on. Having a book accepted would be the best holiday gift ever. But my realistic side tells me editors are probably as busy as everyone else at this time of year.
An acceptance as a New Year gift would be nice too!
Guess I will continue to wait.
Or maybe I will start work on another book. Hmmmm. There's an idea.

Four months down the track
Well it is four months down the track and I have two books with revisions done at two different publishers and am waiting to hear back about them. A third book (actually my second book, and at the first publishing house) passed its first hurdle and I am waiting to hear back on that one too.
So I am trying to be patient. Sitting here waiting. Biting my fingernails. This waiting is hard, but at least I seem to be moving forward over all.

Revising with fingers crossed!
A publisher is willing to consider my book further if I make some changes. The changes requested are quite logical and reasonable for the characters' behavior. So hopefully I can do this successfully!
Wish me luck!

Taking the Plunge
Well I wrote the third book and have submitted it to a different publisher.
I am not sure whether submitting different books to different publishers is a good idea or not, but felt it would not be wise to submit yet a third book to the first company, so this seemed a better option.
So once again I must sit and wait.
I am not good at that, but I will try.
Wish me luck with this book, please

Pressure to write a third book
I am still waiting to hear back about the first two books but the characters for a third book are running around in my head wanting to tell me their story. So far I have managed to resist them. I really want the feedback on the other books so that the next book is a better written story, more appropriate for my audience and more saleable. But it is very hard not to set fingers to keyboard again.

The second book has jumped its first hurdle!
I heard back today that my second book has made it past the initial reviewer and is waiting to be seen by an acquiring editor. I am very excited that this book has made it so far. This one is quite different from the first one. Of course I would really like the company to love both books!
Fingers crossed

Well I did it
I wrote a second book and sent it off to a publisher despite knowing it may be another five months before I hear back about the first book.
It was a difficult decision. Feedback on the first book would help me avoid making the same mistakes in the second. But just waiting around was making me nervous. And the heroine kept asking me when I was going to tell her story.
So it is done. And now it is back to biting my nails and waiting.
Wish me luck!

Book 2 is started
I have started writing another book.
It seems a bit strange when I don't know if the first one is any good or not but the characters are in my head so I decided to let them out to play on the pages instead.
I am looking forward to finding out where they take me.

I'm so excited!
My book has passed its first test and progressed into the queue for an aquiring editor.
I should hear back in six months!
I'm so excited!

Another book or is it too soon?
I have an idea for another book. It keeps running around in my mind at night preventing me from sleeping.
But is it too soon? Should I wait to hear back about the first book. Their comments could make a big difference to how I write this next one.
But it could be many months before I hear from them.
To write or not to write, that is the question. (sorry, Will).

Taking the next step
The publisher has acknowledged receipt of my book and says I should get an initial response within two months.
Exciting news indeed!

venturing into publishing
20 July 2009So I have written a book.
And sent it to a publisher.
And now I wait.
They say it can take a year to hear back.
Or maybe only a few months.
So I am hoping for the shorter end of the time frame.
Meanwhile I will wait.
And maybe think about writing another book.

Prettying the blog up

I was told my blog looked boring so I have been prettying it up. I don't think I have quite gotten the process right yet, but I will keep trying. Check back later to see if I have succeeded.
